Sarah Loerch, PhD

Lab Head

Sarah Loerch, University of California, Santa Cruz

Pronouns: she/her

Throughout her training, Sarah Loerch has been interested in understanding how cells regulate cellular machines to adapt to changing environmental requirements. During her Ph.D, she worked with Dr. Clara Kielkopf to study pre-mRNA splicing. For her postdoctoral training, she joined Dr. Niko Grigorieff’s lab at Janelia Research Campus where she learned electron cryo-microscopy. There she became interested in understanding how cells regulate protein synthesis and the simple question of how a cell makes the right protein at the right time and in the right place? Sarah and her lab now use their expertise to study the role of localized translation control in various contexts such as pain pathologies and cancer.
