Postdoc

Lars Steinmetz, Stanford University

I am molecular and cell biologist interested in mechanisms of gene regulation. During my PhD in the lab of Paul Lehner at the University of Cambridge, I have been studying how cells defend their genome against DNA invasion. My work uncovered principles by which epigenetic repressor complex HUSH recognizes and transcriptionally represses a broad range of invading genetic elements and defined HUSH as a mammalian RNA-mediated transcriptional silencing pathway. I have recently started a postdoc with Lars Steinmetz at Stanford University where I am going to apply functional genetic screening approaches to interrogate different epigenetic pathways and identify novel cell type-specific mechanisms of gene regulation.
