My research interests are centered around aging in eukaryotes, which would include telomeres and telomerase, eccDNA, genetic pathways for aging, cell growth, etc. This extends into a fascination with cancer, more specifically immortal cancer cell lines, which have gained remarkable ways of overcoming senescence, often through mutation events related to oncogenic pathways. As an undergrad I hope to further explore these interests, and gain more insight into how cancer cells can become “immortal,” as well as better understand the pool of mutations, genes, and molecular processes that can lead to their creation.
